    Rising Tide: Film and Video Works from the MCA Collection, Sydney

    Co-organized by MCASD and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, this exhibition focuses on Australian film and video works from MCA, Sydney’s permanent collection.

    Modern Masters
    Featuring paintings that represent the pinnacle of mid-century art practice, this exhibition highlights works by major modern artists such as Willem de Kooning, Morris Louis, Joan Mitchell, and Mark Rothko.

    Beautiful Losers

    Don’t miss the San Diego premiere of Beautiful Losers, a quirky documentary offering a collective portrait of like-minded artists who emerged from the underground art, music, and skateboarding scenes of the early 1990s.

    Hear the founding members of Fallen Fruit–an LA-based activist art project–discuss their work at the beginning of the night, then stay for communal jam-making, artist talks, live music, and many other fruit-centric experiences.

    Master Architects Lecture Series
    →Sunday, 2/8/09 and Friday, 2/27/09 > Salk Institute
    To celebrate the great achievements of Louis Kahn, the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and MCASD will present a six-part lecture series featuring some of the world’s most notable architects. The series kicks off with Frank Gehry on Feb. 8 (4 pm), followed by Tod Williams and Billie Tsien on Feb. 27 (7 pm). More info . . .
