La Jolla Waterways Paintings and
Conceptual Art Project Idea
I was driving down Torrey Pines Road to La Jolla Shores (La Jolla Streets) like I had done many times before; however, this time I was on a boat and the road was a river; I was so happy that I wanted to make this dream real. I realized that gravity would never allow this to happen. These paintings are without gravity.
I have spent a lot of time on boats and canals, waiting in locks to keep moving downstream, it is stressful. You do not want to bump the lock or other boats. I wanted to make paintings that showed the excitement and stress of this kind of boating. I did leave the locks out, and with that, I left out gravity, statics, and physics too. I thought it was funny, like Kurt Vonnegut’s “Slapstick” I could turn gravity off if I wanted to.
I hope it is obvious where I am going with this; Students could find a concept that they want to reinforce or delete from the physical world and make a great series of artwork. All of these paintings are mine. However, they could be your students work too. Check out the process and the paintings.
This project could be an English-History-Physics-Art collaborative endeavor. Email me if you have questions or need help getting started. jefecarlosrobin@gmail.com
